First ever Birmingham Design Festival starts next week!
Birmingham’s first ever design festival is due to take place from 7th—10th June 2018.
The Birmingham Design Festival is a celebration of the dynamic design industry, featuring a broad range of disciplines and top practitioners from the UK and beyond, as well as providing a platform for some of the most prolific and successful local designers.
The, predominantly free, festival covers the key areas of design and comprises talks, workshops, exhibitions and screenings on a wide range of topics covering design approach, impact and application. It will be hosted across the many of the city’s great venues – including galleries, auditoriums, independent cinemas, bars and coffee shops.
World-renowned designer and founder of Draplin Design Co, Aaron Draplin, will be heading up the largest of these events, at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Aaron and his team’s client list includes global brands such as Nike, Ford Motor Company and even the Obama Administration! The event, titled ‘An Illuminating Celebration of Colour, Craft & Creativity!’, takes place on the final night of the festival, Saturday 10th June, and will feature talks from Aaron, The Yarza Twins and Tom Muller.
Carousel’s own Creative Director, Andy Roberts, is part of the Birmingham Design Festival team, he said: “I’m very much looking forward to the Festival. A major event and gathering of the Birmingham design community couldn’t come at a better time than right now, considering just how much development is happening across the city.
“It’s been an exciting process seeing it all come together – and those that have spearheaded the festival’s creation and organisation have worked incredibly hard to deliver this.
“I think Birmingham has a superb design culture. The attitude within the city’s design community is one of real modesty, despite great achievement. This event, however, is an opportunity for us to, rightfully, showcase what the city’s designers are capable of – by raising awareness of the value of design and providing local creatives with some great exposure.“
